McMinnville resident and Warren County native J. Paul Newby, age 84, was born June 5, 1926 and died December 13, 2010 at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, TN following a sudden illness. An oak furniture salesman, former manager of American Life Insurance Company for twenty-one years and Gulf States Life Insurance Company and member of the Methodist Church, he was the son of the late Sam H. and Margaret E. Newby. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, G.W. Newby and Clayburn Robinson and three sisters, Lowrie Turner, Jim Robinson and Rowena Boyd. He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Pauleese and Joe Craft of Sparta, TN; grandson, Patrick Sloan of Nashville, TN; step-son, Tommy Cartwright of Smyrna, TN; niece, Carol (Ricky) Lance of McMinnville; son in his heart, Mike Simmons of Woodbury, TN; two brothers and sister-in-law, Rudolph Newby of Tullahoma, TN and Randolph and Helen Newby of McMinnville; nieces and nephews, Randy Christine Parks, Kim Thrasher, Libby Sohrabi and Steve Newby; several great-nieces, great-nephews and numerous friends also survive. Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 17, 2010 in High's Parlor with Tommy Cartwright officiating. Burial followed in the Bethlehem Cemetery.
