McMinnville resident and Warren County native Cecil Dewey Prater, age 91, was born February 5, 1919 and died June 25, 2010 at NHC Healthcare McMinnville following an extended illness. A retired rural letter carrier, United States Navy veteran of WWII and member of the Westwood Church of Christ, he was the son of the late Sam Arlee and Mary Lowe Prater. He was a life-time member of the American Legion. He was married to Frances Lillian Sain who preceded him in death March 15, 2002. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Luther and Glenn Prater; two sisters, Lucille Rinehart and Nina McCormick and granddaughter, Carole Prater Bradley. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Sydney Prater of McMinnville and Dr. Nick and Patty Prater of Olathe, KS; two grandchildren, Sean Prater of Durham, NC and Breanna Prater of Dallas, TX and brother, Eugene Prater of McMinnville. Funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 28, 2010 in High's Chapel with Coy Hathcock officiating. Burial followed in the Gardens of Memory with full military honors administered by the American Legion Post 173 and VFW Post 5064.
