Theodore Ted PRATER

February 17, 1919 — June 11, 2010

Morrison, TN resident and Warren County native Theodore "Ted" Prater, age 91, was born February 17, 1919 and died June 11, 2010 at his residence following an extended illness. A retired supervisor with AEDC and member of the Morrison Church of Christ, he was the son of the late John Murph and Media St. John Prater. Mr. Prater was a past elder at Morrison Church of Christ. He was the first superintendent of Sunny Acres Children's Home, an original founder of F.C. Boyd Christian, Sr. School, an original organizer of the 911 board and a charter member of Morrison Ruritan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth Eustace Prater and two sisters, Johnnie Ruth "Sug" Fisher and Christine Cooper. He was married November 22, 1941 to Midred McMahan Prater of Morrison, TN. In addition to his wife of sixty-nine years, he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Ted Riley and Michael Prater of Englewood, FL; two daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Marion Turner of Morrison, TN and Amy and Paul Freeman of McMinnville; two chosen daughters of the heart, Brenda Dykes Cope and husband Gary of Huntsville, AL and Treva Talbert Spurling of McMinnville; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Robin and Marcus Eason, Jill Cherie McArdell, Jennifer and Chad Turner, Elizabeth and Stephen Smith, Kelly and Jamie Taylor, Kara and Chris Helton, Derrick and Buddi Dean, Amy and James Priest and John Wesley Roberts; sixteen great-grandchildren; Abigail Nichole Eason, Brandon Kyle Eason, Julian Caleb Eason, Trey (Robert) Carey, Brooke (Avery) Carey, Aubrey (Julia) McArdell, Hannah Lea Turner, McCall Isaiah Turner, Kaylin Prater Barrett, Dustin Sawyer "Saul" Barrett, Samuel Vance Smith, Jacob Warren Taylor, Jase Wesley Taylor, Jamison Paul Helton and one set of twins; sister, Willie Sain and a host of nieces and nephews. He was expecting two great-grandchildren and his first great-great-grandchild. Funeral service was held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 13, 2010 at Morrison Church of Christ with Leroy Dedmon, Roger Comstock and Bobby Newby officiating. Burial followed in the Shady Grove Cemetery in Coffee County, TN. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Boyd Christian School or The Gospel Broadcasting Network.
