Arlis Ray ROGERS

January 24, 1930 — October 27, 2010

Rock Island, TN resident and Warren County native Arlis Ray Rogers, age 80, was born January 24, 1930 and died October 27, 2010 at Raintree Manor following an extended illness. A retired plumber and electrician and United States Army veteran of Korea, he was the son of the late C.E. "Earskin" and Emma Bernice "Necie" Rutledge Rogers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Gertrude Miller; brother, Charles Rogers and grandson, Griffin Parker Rogers. He was married March 20, 1954 to his wife of fifty-six years, Ela Ray Walker Rogers of Rock Island, TN. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela Rogers Vaughn and husband Michael Vaughn of McMinnville and Vickie Rogers Dodd and husband Rusty Dodd of McMinnville; son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Theresia Rogers of Rock Island, TN; five grandchildren, Amanda Vaughn Gilchrist and husband Scott Gilchrist of Seattle, WA, Sarah Vaughn of Nashville, TN, Derrin Rogers of Rock Island, TN, Katie Rogers of Chattanooga, TN and Lucas Rogers of Rock Island, TN; sister-in-law, Treva Walker Barnes of Rock Island, TN and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Mr. Rogers served in the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a volunteer for many years at the Veterans Hospital in Murfreesboro and was a member of the VFW Post 5064. A graveside service and interment was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 30, 2010 at Friendship Cemetery with Steve Breedlove officiating. Full military honors were administered by VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173. Memorial contributions may be made to Rock Island Lions Club.
