McMinnville resident and Warren County native Charles Lawson Slaughter, age 80, was born August 17, 1930 and died September 15, 2010 at NHC Healthcare McMinnville following an extended illness. An employee of McMinnville Manufacturing for thirty-three years, United States Marine Corps veteran of Korea and member of the Baptist Church, he was the son of the late Jess Eli and Grace Lee Fults Slaughter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Leon, Hughey and J.E. Slaughter and four sisters, Lodema Slaughter, Geneva Smartt, Alma Barnes and Laura Smartt. He was married June 13, 1953 to Peggy J. Slaughter of McMinnville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela and Robert Thompson and Mary Ann and Rickey Cox both of McMinnville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles David and Shannon Slaughter of Rock Island, TN and Hugh Gerald and Sherry Slaughter of McMinnville; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Hallie and Jewell Warren, Eva Nell and G.D. Bess, Frances Butcher and Wilma Brock all of McMinnville; sister-in-law, Hattie Dean Slaughter of McMinnville and ten grandchildren, Joshua, Kelley, Beth, Emaly, Hollie, Jesse, Chris, Zack, Gavin and Braelin. Funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 18, 2010 in High's Chapel with Joey Spicer and Joshua Thompson officiating. Burial followed in the Gardens of Memory with full military honors administered by the VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173.
