Ruben William Bud SMITH

Rock Island, TN resident and Grundy County, TN native Ruben William "Bud" Smith, age 79, was born June 1, 1930 and died February 19, 2010 at his residence following an extended illness. A retired nurseryman, United States Army veteran of Korea and member of the Methodist Church, he was the son of the late Ruben Jackson and Lillie Ethel Fults Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Kathaline Nunley and two brothers, Roy and Paul Edward Smith. He was married February 28, 1959 to Julia Mae Howser Smith of Campaign, TN. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, E. Doris Castillo of Campaign, TN; son, Ruben E. Smith of Campaign, TN; step-daughter and step-son-in-law, Karen and Tony Cagle of Pikeville, TN; four grandchildren and their spouses, Billy and Christie Myers, Michael and Robin Myers and Kasey Smith all of Morrison, TN and Cassie and Joseph Johnson of McMinnville; step-grandson, Matthew and LeeAnn Walker of Spring City, TN; five great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandson; six sisters and brother-in-law, Earnestine Perry, Nellie Megallon, Nena Nunley, Glenda Drewer and Faye Sanders all of McMinnville and Paulette "Cookie" and Joel Rollins of Whitwell, TN; two brothers, Bill Smith of McMinnville and Nelson Smith of Ashland City, TN; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. Funeral service was held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 21, 2010 in High's Chapel with Jason Nunley and Delbert Layne officiating. Burial followed in the Friendship Cemetery.
