Ruth Smith YOUNG

November 25, 1922 — December 25, 2010

McMinnville resident and Barbour County, AL native Ruth Smith Young, age 88, was born November 25, 1922 and died December 25, 2010 at Raintree Manor Nursing Home following an extended illness. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Isaiah and Mattie Lee Robinson Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by thirteen half-brothers and half-sisters; two brothers and son, Joseph Dixon Young. After graduating from high school, Mrs. Young attended business college in Alabama and became employed by the Federal Land Bank there. She was married to Chief Ferrell Dixon Young, U.S. Navy, Retired. After WWII the family moved to Pensacola, FL where she worked for the Department of the Navy until her retirement. In 1994, she and her husband moved to McMinnville to be close to their family. In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Samuel L. and Dr. Linda M. Young of McMinnville; two granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Dr. Lorien and John Sites of Nashville, TN and Hunter and Scot MacDonald of McMinnville and three great-grandchildren, Lillian Sites and John Sites, Jr. of Nashville, TN and Emory MacDonald of McMinnville. A graveside service and interment was held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at Gardens of Memory with Dick Scott-Welch officiating.
