Elizabeth Louise HILLIS

Rock Island, TN resident and Van Buren County, TN native Elizabeth Louise Hillis, age 90, was born February 13, 1921 and died July 18, 2011 at Raintree Manor following an extended illness. A retired employee of Magnetek and a member of First Freewill Baptist Church, she was the daughter of the late Ernest T. and Nancy Ann Clark Grissom. She was married on December 23, 1940 to Arthur Hillis who preceded her in death September 6, 1975. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Glenda Ann Hillis; three brothers, Arzie, Clark and Theron Grissom and three sisters, Ernestine Grissom, Mattie Land and Maxine Sweeney. She is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Mevolyn Farless of Smithville, TN and Joan and Jim Slatton of McMinnville; son and daughter-in-law, Clark and Jane Hillis of Rock Island, TN; brother and sister-in-law, J. B. and Emmalene Grissom of Muncie, IN; grandson, Darrell Hillis and wife, Katrina; two granddaughters, Sherry Farless Johnson of Murfreesboro, TN and Jan Foster and husband Prentice of Smithville, TN; two great-granddaughters, one step-great-granddaughter, three step-great-grandsons and seven great-great-grandsons and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 21, 2011 in High's Chapel with Richard Bowman and Dennis Deweese officiating. Burial followed in the Crain Hill Cemetery in Van Buren County, TN.
