John Thurman JOHNSON

Smithville, TN resident and DeKalb County, TN native John Thurman Johnson, age 85, was born December 9, 1926 and died December 13, 2011 at River Park Hospital following an extended illness. A nurseryman, farmer and carpenter and member of Mt. Hope Baptist Church, he was the son of the late, Andrew and Rebecca Malone Johnson. He was married to Dorothy Hazel Jones who preceded him in death May 12, 1999. He is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Janie and Charlie Adams and Virginia Reed both of McMinnville; four grandchildren and their spouses, Kim and Steve Dykes, Kent and Betty Perry, Tony Rigsby and Kristi Davis all of McMinnville; step-grandchildren and their spouses, Charlie and Kelli Adams and Cherri and Randy Taylor both of McMinnville and six great-grandchildren. Funeral service was held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2011 in High's Chapel with Dwight Knowles and Roland Sharp officiating. Burial followed in the Jefferson Cemetery in DeKalb County, TN.
