Ed Molloy, 90, of McMinnville died Monday at Stone Crest Medical Center in Smyrna, TN. Ed was born in 1920, and was co-owner of Molloy's Laundry and Dry Cleaning, a fifty plus year business that served McMinnville and surrounding counties. He was a long-time member of the Central Church of Christ and a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army as a combat engineer. During his service in World War II, he completely circumnavigated the earth before returning home. After returning home, Ed served his fellow veterans for many years by participating in the American Legion Post 173's Honor Guard. For his many years of service in the honor guard, he was named as an honorary Brigadier General. Ed was the son of the renowned Federal Revenue Officer J. Logan Molloy and his wife Elfleda Lowery Molloy and in his youth participated as a deputy in raids on illegal moonshine stills. His brother Robert "Bob" Molloy is the only surviving member of twelve siblings. Ed was married to his beloved wife Geraldine Sapp (Gerry) who preceded him in death, as did his loving daughter Brenda. Survivors include his son, Kevin (Captain USPHS retired) and daughter-in-law Debbie Molloy, their children Logan Molloy and Ehrin Kalchik and husband SGT Steven Kalchik and three great-grandchildren - Curstyn Molloy, Craig Molloy and Sarrah Kalchik. His other son, Dr. Shawn Molloy and wife Darlene, their children Dr. Seth Molloy and wife Brittany, daughter Jessica Striz and husband Jeremy and two children sage and Pierce, and daughter Meshon Crateau and husband Kevin and daughters Madison and Kennedy. He was preceded in death by five brothers, T. B., Hillard L., Lynn, Laddie and Rayden Molloy and three sisters, Donnie Ray, Louise Gross and Lillian Roach. Funeral service was held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 27, 2011 in High's Chapel with Bro. Ben Bailey officiating. Burial followed in the Shellsford Cemetery with full military honors administered by the VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Magness Memorial Library in the form of books or other gifts.
