McMinnville resident and Warren County native Randolph L. Newby, age 87, was born June 19, 1923 and died March 1, 2011 at River Park Hospital following a brief illness. A pillar of the community, he managed Fraley's Furniture Store for more than fifty years and was member of First Baptist Church of McMinnville for fifty-eight years. Tales of his generosity to customers and kindness to friends abound, and his was a familiar face in the downtown business district. Mr. Newby was a member of the Masonic Ezel Lodge #381 of Morrison, TN for fifty-six years. He was the son of the late Sam Henderson and Margaret Bertha Elizabeth Newby. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Sgt. Jimmie Akins and Julius Christopher Newby; siblings, Lowry Turner, Jim Robinson, G.W. Newby, Rowena Boyd, J. Paul Newby and Clayborn Robinson. He was married to Helen Newby of McMinnville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Randie Newby Parks and husband Michael of Liberty Township, OH and Kim Newby Thrasher and husband Rusty of New York City, NY; four grandchildren, Angie Akins of Indiana, Cale Parks of Brooklyn, NY, Kylie Parks of Liberty Township, OH and Henry Thrasher of New City, NY; brother, Rudolph Newby of Tullahoma, TN; two nephews, William Renee Turner of Franklin, TN and Steve Newby of Memphis, TN and four nieces, Charlene Lay of Nashville, TN, Pauleese Craft of Sparta, TN, Libby Sohrabi of Tullahoma, TN and Carol Lance of McMinnville. Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 5, 2011 at First Baptist Church with Rev. John May officiating. Burial followed in the Bethlehem Cemetery.
