Joe Wallace SOUTHERN

February 12, 1920 — April 1, 2011

McMinnville resident and Pelham, TN native Joe Wallace Southern, age 91, was born February 12, 1920 and died April 1, 2011 at Raintree Manor Nursing Home following a lingering illness. A retired truck driver with Eaton Truck Lines and member of the Hiawassee Church of Christ, he was the son of the late Alex and Isabelle Reynolds Southern. He was married to Ruth Mount Southern who preceded him in death. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Waymon and Jack Southern and five sisters, Cleo Wilkerson, Alberta Taylor, Vera Wilkerson, Lira Southern and Jessie Robertson. He is survived by one son, Michael Pleasant of McMinnville; sister, Ruth Rutledge of McMinnville; nephews, Sonny Rutledge, Jerry Rutledge and wife Dianne, Bill Rutledge and wife Phyllis, Bobby Rutledge and wife Linda, Larry Rutledge, Sr. and wife Amanda and Gary Rutledge and wife Norna all of McMinnville and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral service was held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2011 in High's Chapel with George King, Jr. and Phillip Smith, Jr. officiating. Burial followed in the Corinth Cemetery in Viola, TN.
