Linda Pedigo CAVINESS

November 20, 1945 — May 4, 2012

Warrenton, Va. resident and DeKalb County native Linda Pedigo Caviness, 66, died May 4 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born in DeKalb County on Nov. 20, 1945 and moved with her family to the Shellsford area of Warren County in 1947. She was the daughter of the late Wesley and Mary Elizabeth Moore Pedigo. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Cletus Caviness of Germantown, Tenn. She graduated from Central High School in McMinnville, Tenn. in 1963, the salutatorian of her senior class. She received her bachelors degree from Memphis State University and spent more than 25 years as an educator, first as an instructor at Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, Tenn., then as a teacher at Warren County High School and in the South Orange Maplewood School District in Maplewood, N.J., primarily teaching foreign languages. She was married to her husband of 35 years, Albert Wayne Caviness, on April, 9, 1977. In addition to her her husband she is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Leigh Jacobs and husband Tom of Pittsburgh Penn., and Juliet Elizabeth Caviness, of Warrenton, and fiancé Jesse Fruchter; son, Luther Wayne Caviness of Warrenton; sisters, Evelena Pedigo Ashburn and husband Mark of Smithville and Virginia Pedigo Newby and husband Gary of Sparta; brothers, Dr. Thurman Lee Pedigo, Sr. and wife Jeanne of Murfreesboro, Ralph Walter Pedigo and wife RayNell and Charles Wesley Pedigo Johnson, both of McMinnville; and mother-in-law, Melva Caviness of Germantown. A host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, extended family and friends also survive. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 11 at New Union United Methodist Church on Highway 30 with Bro. Tim Lewis officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to a scholarship fund in honor of Mrs. Caviness. High Funeral Home will accept the donations until the fund is formally set up.
