McMinnville resident and Connecticut native Robert "Bob" Krofssik died Tuesday, May 1, 2012 after losing his fight with cancer. He was born March 11, 1946 in Bridgeport, Connecticut. A retired law enforcement officer, he honorably served his country with the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was assigned to the Inshore Undersea Warfare Group One in Cam Ranh Bay which earned among other awards, the U.S. Navy Unite Commendation and the Meritorious Unit Commendation. He also served on the Air Craft Carrier U.S.S. Franklin D. Roosevelt in the South China Sea and the U.S.S. Fulton a submarine tender based out of New London, Connecticut. He began a career in law enforcement in 1971 with the Orlando, Florida Police Department and in 1980 moved to McMinnville where he was hired as an officer with the McMinnville Police Department. He was promoted to Detective Sergeant and also served as the McMinnville and Warren County Drug Team Supervisor. In 1997 he was hired on as s Special Agent by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation where he served until his retirement in 2007. Mr. Krofssik was preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Evelyn Beauregard Krofssik. He is survived by his wife of twenty-seven years, Gwendolyn "Gwen" Brown Krofssik; son, Scott Krofssik (Tina) of McMinnville; daughters, Denise Krofssik Smiley (Chris) of Cookeville, TN, Leanne Krofssik and Kellie Krofssik Neely (Richard) both of Old Hickory, TN; and Kristy Krofssik Hargis (Ryan) of Gruetli-Laager, TN; sixteen grandchildren; sister, Deloris Krofssik Curtis of McMinnville and two brothers, Leonard Krofssik of Land'O Lakes, FL and Gary Krofssik of Roxbury, CT. Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 5, 2012 in High's Chapel with Tony Smedley and Bill Gibson officiating. Burial followed in the Hills Creek Cemetery with full military honors administered by the VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173.
