McMinnville resident and Warren County native J.W. "Willie" Mayes, age 90, was born July 4, 1921 and died April 25, 2012 at Raintree Manor Nursing Home following an extended illness. A retired farmer and livestock dealer and member of the Rockliff Church of Christ, he was the son of the late Oscar and Mary Pearson Mayes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Ann Mayes; son, Jimmy Lynn Mayes; five sisters, Carrie Blanks, Edna Woodlee, Frances Bell, Charlene Smith and Lucille Blankenship and brother, George Mayes. He was married December 20, 1947 to Bobbie Johnson Mayes of McMinnville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Vickie Mayes and friend Barry Haston of McMinnville; sister, Betty Walker of McMinnville; brother, Howard Mayes of McMinnville and caretaker, Judy Green of McMinnville. Funeral service was held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2012 in High's Chapel with Terry Townsend, Robert Horton and Robert Nopgrass officiating. Burial followed in the Smyrna Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association c/o High's.
