Alvin Lierd WOODLEE

June 28, 1930 — February 25, 2012

Alvin Lierd Woodlee, 81, of McMinnville, died February 25, 2012 in the care of Alive Hospice in Nashville, TN. Mr. Woodlee was born June 28, 1930, in Irving College, Warren County, TN. His parents were Carrie McGregor Woodlee and Osmond Cain Woodlee. He was a retired farmer and nurseryman, and retired from Magnetek in McMinnville. Mr. Woodlee was active in 4-H Club Council, an accomplished athlete in basketball and baseball in his youth and then an inspiring coach in sports and in life. He never met a stranger, as he traveled the U.S. following his children?s lives. Mr. Woodlee was a youth baseball league coach in McMinnville, and in his retirement years, a volunteer for the Public Safety Unit with the City of McMinnville. Mr. Woodlee is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, E.K. and Mack Woodlee and sister, Rebecca Kirby. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Jean Nelms Woodlee; one brother, Osmond Cain Woodlee of Irving College; and one sister-in-law Lillian Nelms Daniel, and many nieces and nephews. He is survived by daughter, Nancy Gaye Lundry (Tony) of Franklin, TN, her daughter Bethany Womack (Joe Upton) of Guntersville, AL; son, John Anthony "Tony" Woodlee of Chattanooga, TN and his daughter Olivia Woodlee of Cookeville, TN; son, Timothy Cain Woodlee, his wife Joan and daughters, Rachel and Laura Woodlee of Greer, SC; and son Todd Nelms Woodlee and his wife, Dr. Anna Filippo of Clarksville, TN. He is also survived by first cousin and lifelong friend and ally, Dr. Wheeler Kesey McGregor, Jr. of Manchester, TN and lifelong best friend, Fred Wayne Clendenon of Irving College, TN and many, many friends. Very special thanks to caregivers Mary Selig, Sharon Lawson, Stacy Bonner, Dr. Jimmie Woodlee and the professionals and staff at Riverpark and St. Thomas Hospitals, NHC-McMinnville, and Alive Hospice for their loving care for our husband and father. Memorial services were held on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at High Funeral Home. Burial followed in Mt. View Cemetery on North Spring Street.
