McMinnville resident and Coffee County, TN native Marshall Leon Cathey, age 85, was born February 23, 1927 and died July 24, 2012 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN following a brief illness. A retired school teacher, United States Army veteran of Korea and member of the East End Church of Christ, he was the son of the late Samuel Wade and Mattie Lou Harrell Cathey. In addition his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Barbara Jean Cathey and three brothers, J.N., Bill and Buddy Cathey. He was married September 12, 1954 to Emma Cathey of McMinnville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children and their spouses, Ricky and Jan Cathey and Janet Ann Harden both of Murfreesboro and Rodney and Wendi Cathey of Gladeville, TN; five grandchildren, K.J. and Brad Harden and Brandon and Erica Cathey all of Murfreesboro, TN and Caroline Cathey of Gladeville, TN; three great-grandchildren; three brothers and sister-in-law, Jerry and Dot Cathey and Don and Martha Cathey both of McMinnville and Richard Cathey of Smithville, TN; sister, Dot Hollis of Bowling Green, KY and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service was held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2012 in High's Chapel with Kevin Key officiating. Burial followed in the Gardens of Memory with full military honors administered by the VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, American Legion Post 173 or VFW Post 5064.
