James Edward EVANS

McMinnville resident and Warren County native James Edward Evans, age 78, was born August 2, 1934 and died August 30, 2012 at NHC Healthcare in Smithville, TN following an extended illness. A retired machinist at AEDC, farmer, United States Navy veteran and member of Northside Church of Christ in Smithville, he was the son of the late Edward and Katherine Savage Evans. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Howard Evans and sister, Barbara Green. He was married February 28, 1957 to Loretta Strode Evans of McMinnville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Sgt. 1st Class Gary Edward Evans, Retired of Clarksville, TN and Jerry Hendon of Shelbyville, TN; daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Edwin Brooks of Manchester, TN; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Martin of McMinnville; special friends, Kathy and Steve Officer of Smithville, TN; a host of nieces and nephews and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jean Strode, James and Jeanette Strode, Jeanette and Horace Arnold and Christine Grayson all of McMinnville, Benton and Rosalyn Strode of Bakersfield, CA, and Ralph and Ruby Strode of Yorktown, VA. A graveside service and interment was held at 3:00 p.m. Monday in Gardens of Memory with Burness Lyons officiating. Full military honors were administered by VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173.
