William Van Womack, 86, of Zephyrhills, FL, passed away on September 20, 2012, at Gulfside Hospice, Zephyrhills, FL. Born in St. Petersburg, FL on April 16, 1926 of Robert and Lelia Womack. Graduate of Zephyrhills High School and entered the U.S. Navy soon after. He served during WWII in the Pacific Theater as a Frogman, ending his tour of duty in Operation Magic Carpet with the removal of Troops from Japan and the Pacific Islands. Retired after 33 years of service with the U.S. Postal Service in Zephyrhills as one of the last Assistant Postmasters in the state. Served as an elder in the church of Christ at Plant City, FL for 24 years, and later attended the church at Zephyrhills for the last 13 years. Predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Lois Fuston Womack; brothers, Robert Bryan Womack, Jr. and Joseph Paul Womack. Survived by his loving wife of 13 years, Kathleen Womack; sons, Gary V. Womack, Dade City, FL, Mark A. Womack, Taylorsville, NC; step-son, Jeff Bender, Rutand, VT; step-daughter, Julie Ciociola, Zephyrhills, FL; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. A graveside service and interment was held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 28, 2012 at Fuston Cemetery with Gary Womack officiating. Full military honors were administered by the VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Gulfside Center for Hospice Care c/o High's.
