James E. Totherow, Sr.

McMinnville resident and Sand Mountain, AL native James E. Totherow, age 87, was born June 8, 1925 and died October 9, 2012 at River Park Hosptial following a brief illness. He was the son of the late William Martin and Hattie Shrader Totherow and was married to Ophelia Taylor Totherow who preceded him in death March 7, 2005. Mr. Totherow served in the United States Navy during WWII in Amphibious Forces. He was a practicing CPA for over fifty years and founding partner of Totherow, Haile and Welch. Along with his beloved wife Ophelia, he was a long-time member and active in several aspects of life at First Baptist Church. He was twice Commander of the American Legion Post 173 and a member of VFW Post 5064. He is survived by three children and their spouses, Phyllis and Mike Turner, Betty Michalson and James and Denise Totherow, Jr. all of McMinnville; six grandchildren, Bill Bates, Mike Vinson, Mark Wright, Lala Garcia, Jamie Lorance and James E. Totherow, III all of McMinnville; nine great-grandchildren and one brother, Charles Totherow of Gruetli-Laager, TN. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 12, 2012 at First Baptist Church with John May officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. View Cemetery with full military honors administered by the American Legion Post 173 and VFW Post 5064. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Thursday at High's and 11:00 a.m. until time of service Friday at First Baptist Church.
