Charlie Thomas Humphrey

McMinnville resident and Hazel Green, AL native Charlie Thomas Humphrey, age 81, was born September 11, 1931 and died October 14, 2012 at his residence following a six month illness. He was a retired employee of Powermatic with 36 years service, employed by the Warren County Sanitation Department, a United States Army veteran of Korea and a member of the Church of Christ. He served as a member of the Warren County Civil Defense and was a Constable for the 10th District, with a combined total of 48 years service. He was the son of the late Joseph Elbert and Jessie May Dickson Humphrey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven brothers, Bill, Davis, Fred, Shelby, Elby, Floyd and Joe Humphrey, Jr. He was married July 9, 1955 to Marie Prater Humphrey of McMinnville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by five daughters and sons-in-law, Pam and Freddy Basham, Sharon and Larry Ashford, Teresa and David Smith, Crystal and David Tompkins and Julie and Bradley Earls all of McMinnville; nine grandchildren, Marie Turpin, Steven Lawrence, Thomas Ashford, Emily Young, Travis Young, Matthew Lawrence, Ashley Smith, Tyler Smith and Raven Ward; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jean Northcutt and Louise Pearsall both of McMinnville; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 18, 2012 in High's Chapel with Jackie Matheny, George Kesler and Roger Hamlet officiating. Burial will follow in Unity Cemetery will full military honors administered by VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, and from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service Thursday at High's. All Constables are asked to serve as Honorary Pall Bearers. Memorials may be made to the Humphrey family for funeral expenses.
