Jacksonville, FL resident and White County, TN native Katherine Potter Tarwater, age 100, was born April 29, 1912 and died October 13, 2012 at Sterling House Assisted Living in Jacksonville, FL. A librarian and member of the Church of Christ, she was the daughter of the late Kelly Frederick and Kate Dibrell Potter. Mrs. Tarwater met her husband at LMU and was a graduate of TTU in Cookeville, TN. She started her career as a librarian at William Biles Elementary School in McMinnville, and after living there for many years, she and her husband moved to Cocoa, FL, where her husband worked at Cape Canaveral. Her nieces quote, "Aunt Kitty was the life of the party, and was well known for her quick wit." She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Tipton Tarwater, January 25, 1973. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Rhea Dibrell Potter; sister, Frances Potter Ralston and nephew, George Albert Ralston, Jr. She is survived by two nieces, Robbie Stephens and husband Robert of Knoxville, TN and Nancy Potter Newby of Cookeville, TN; great nieces and great-nephews, Susan Harris Shannon and husband Meredith of Memphis, TN, Russell Rhea Harris and wife Pam of Cookeville, TN, Kate Newby Martin of Columbia, TN, Francie Newby Owens and husband Robert of Franklin, TN, George Albert Ralston, III and wife Sandy of Jacksonville, FL and Foyt Tipton Ralston and wife Kellie of Tallahassee, FL; devoted friend and caregiver, Gertrude Ralston Harvey of Jacksonville, FL; eight great-great nieces and great-great-nephews and the devoted and caring staff at Sterling House Assisted Living. A graveside service and interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 27, 2012 at Mt. View Cemetery with Ben Bailey officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Saturday at High's. Memorial contributions may be made to any hospice facility of your choice.
