McMinnville resident and Warren County native Laura Mae Gibbs, age 89, was born September 5, 1923 and died November 17, 2012 at NHC Healthcare McMinnville following an extended illness. A homemaker and member of the Church of Christ, she was the daughter of the late John Floyd and Josephine "Josie" Mayfield Whitworth. She was married to John Austin Gibbs, Jr. who preceded her in death. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Floyd Jr., E.L. and Harold Wayne Whitworth. She is survived by daughter, Beatrice Whitman of McMinnville; son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Vicki Gibbs of Rock Island, TN; daughter, Patricia Koontz and husband William of Easley, SC; nine grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; five sisters, Lillie Smith of McMinnville, Deamie Moody and Jenny Hillis both of Rock Island, TN, Lorena Snider of Indiana and Joyce Glover of Baldwin Park, CA; two brothers, Joe Whitworth of Quebeck, TN and Benny Whitworth of Spencer, TN; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 20, 2012 in High's Chapel with Titus Ward officiating. Burial will follow in the Crain Hill Cemetery in Van Buren County, TN. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday and 9:00 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at High's.
