McMinnville resident and Scranton, PA native Laverne William Grieves, age 81, was born July 12, 1931 and died February 7, 2013 at NHC Healthcare McMinnville following an extended illness. A retired employee of Powermatic and member of the Irving College Baptist Church, he was the son of the late Edgar Lifton and Erma Arlene Whiting Grieves. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Grieves and three brothers, Bobby, Ronnie and Edgar Grieves. He was married August 9, 1984 to Myrtle Brown Grieves of McMinnville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons and daughter-in-law, John Grieves and Rodger and Vickie Grieves both of McMinnville and Vernon Grieves of Manchester, TN; daughter, Karen Grieves of McMinnville; twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Rodger Kenneth and Linda Grieves of Largo, FL and Byron and Jeanette Grieves of Dallas, PA; sister and brother-in-law, Naomi and Ed Alday of Donalsonville, GA; two step-sons and step-daughter-in-law, Tommy and Carla Savage and Bill Brown both of McMinnville and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, February 10, 2013 in High's Chapel with Alton Scruggs officiating. Burial will follow in the Shellsford Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Saturday and 9:00 a.m. until time of service Sunday at High's.
