Billy Edwin Whitlock

November 30, 1925 — March 19, 2013

Billy Edwin Whitlock, 87, died March 19, 2013 peacefully at home in McMinnville, TN. Born November 30, 1925 in the Crisp Springs Community of Warren County, TN. Preceded in death by his parents, O.H. Whitlock and Bobbie Evelyn Whitlock; brother, John Carl Whitlock and sister, Nancy Hallene Spangler. Survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Louise Seamons Whitlock; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Tricia Whitlock and grandsons, Brad Whitlock and Andy Whitlock. Edwin began his lifelong love of education in a one room log schoolhouse in the Grange Hall Community of Warren County. After graduation from Central High School, he continued his education at MTSU and Peabody College where he received his master's degree in education and worked toward his PhD. For many years, he taught school in Tennessee, Georgia and Florida. He owned several small businesses along the way, the last being a shoe store in McMinnville. Edwin was a member of Central Church of Christ, a master mason and a member of the Scottish Rite for over 50 years. Edwin was a man of many varied interests. Music was a large part of his life and he played the violin, mandolin and guitar for family and friends for many years. He played with a small band that performed at various venues in the area. When he wasn't playing music, he could be found enjoying life in his garden, reading, fishing or woodworking. His optimism and contentment with life defined his personality, and he was known to greet the day with "Hello World". A graveside service and interment will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2013 at Bethany Cemetery with Wayne Cantrell officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday at High's. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to Meals on Wheels, 106 East End Dr., McMinnville, TN 37110.
