Johnny Garvin Haley

June 26, 1920 — January 7, 2014

Rock Island, TN resident and Cannon County, TN native Johnny Garvin Haley, age 93, was born June 26, 1920 and died January 7, 2014 at Highlands Medical Center in Sparta, TN following a one-year illness. Mr. Haley was the owner of Haley's Furniture Store, and was ordained to the ministry in 1953. He pastored nine Southern Baptist Churches in six Middle Tennessee counties, Smith, Wilson, DeKalb, White, Van Buren and Warren. He preached some 130 revival meetings throughout Middle Tennessee, North Carolina, Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia. He was preceded in death by parents, John Robert and Bonnie George Haley. He was married to his first wife, Ruby N. Malone Haley who preceded him in death April 12, 1961. He was also preceded in death by son, Jimmy Roy Haley; two sisters, Lorene Eaton and Gladys Haley; and two brothers, George and Kelton Brown Haley. He was married October 7, 1967 to Mary Shockley Haley of Rock Island, TN. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby & Lorretta Haley of Watertown, TN, Donnie and Pat Haley of Sparta, TN and John and Angie Haley of Sparta, TN; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Jimmy Sparkman of Doyle, TN and Dianne and Randy Simmons of Doyle, TN; step-daughter, Annette Gass and husband Brad of Madison, TN; and ten grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 10, 2014 in High's Chapel with Dr. Cos Davis, Jr,, Jerry Womack, David Carden and Tyree Smith officiating. Visitation will be held Friday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Doyle Cemetery, White County, TN at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 11, 2014 with Dr. Ray Maynard and David Copeland officiating. Memorials may be made to Gideons Inernational.
