Nell White Wyatt Vanatta

October 8, 1922 — February 9, 2014

Nell White Wyatt Vanatta, age 91, died early Sunday morning, February 9, 2014 after a brief illness. She is survived by her three children, J. Timothy White and wife Ruth and Gerald H. White and wife Charlene all of Atlanta, GA, and Marilyn White Angelo and husband Tom of Mill Valley, CA; nine grandchildren; and sister, Aileen Lane of Tullahoma, TN. Nell was born October 8, 1922 in Coffee County, TN, the daughter of Marjorie Conry and Harvey Burnett. She married James W.R. White in 1943, and after WWII, they bought the newspaper in Martin, TN, where they lived until 1965. After acquiring the Southern Standard and WBMC Radio Station, Nell and James moved to McMinnville, where she continued to reside until her death. Widowed in 1985, Nell later married Bob Wyatt of McMinnville, who died in 1993. She was then married to W.E. "Doc" Vanatta of Smithville until his death in 2010. Nell attended the United Methodist Church, and her strong faith sustained her throughout her life. She always sought and found pleasure in the simple joys of life, in her relationships with friends and family, and in helping others. Nell was laid to rest at a graveside service at Mt. View Cemetery on February 11, 2014. Memorial donations may be made to the Magness Memorial Library or the First United Methodist Church of McMinnville.
