Betty Jean "Gurney" Smith

McMinnville, TN resident and Warren County native Betty Jean "Gurney" Smith, age 88, was born November 14, 1925 and died October 12, 2014 following a brief illness. Retired from McMinnville Garment and a member of Westwood Church of Christ, she was the daughter of the late Johnathan Lloyd and Allie Louise McCormick Stanley. She was married April 26, 1950 to Robert C. Smith who preceded her in death on June 13, 1983. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by grandson Travis "Bubba" Steakley; brother, J. L. Stanley; and sister, Billie Bottoms. She is survived by sister, Evelyn Flippin of Nashville, TN; two children and spouses, Debbie and Gary Tubb of McMinnville, TN and Ricky and Lori Smith of McMinnville, TN; 5 grandchildren and spouses, Lori and Bradley Hendrix of Smithville, TN, Shay and Justin Tanner of Murfreesboro, TN, Brittany Smith of McMinnville, TN, Ally Smith of Chattanooga TN and Brent Tubb of McMinnville, TN; and 8 great-grandchildren, Dylan Tubb, Jailyn Bolding, Logan Earls, Jacob Hendrix, Jon Hendrix, Christopher Tubb, Wyatt Tanner and Caroline Rose Tanner. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 15, 2014 in High's Chapel with Bobby Newby officiating. Burial will follow in Smyrna Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday at High's. Memorial Contributions may be made to Kids of the Community.
