McMinnville, TN resident and Warren County, TN native James Lewis "J.L." Hillis, age 80, was born April 17, 1934 and died October 26, 2014 at Raintree Manor following an extended illness. Retired from Burroughs-Ross-Colville, a U.S. Army veteran of Korea, a member of VFW and American Legion, and of the Christian Faith, he was the son of the late James Lee and Hazel Dodson Hillis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Charles Hillis; and two sisters, Lucille Hillis and Joyce Hillis. He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Sherie Hillis of Clermont, FL; daughter and son-in-law, Leigh and Robert Dinwiddie of Morrison, TN; two brothers and sister-in-law, Fred and Kaye Hillis of McMinnville and Jot Hillis of McMinnville; four grandchildren, Caleb Hillis, Colby Ferris, Lillian Dinwiddie and John Dinwiddie; three great-grandchildren, Sonya Hillis, Sierra Hillis and Dane Ferris; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 29, 2014 in High's Chapel with Ray Weddington officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. View Cemetery, Hwy. 30. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service Wednesday at High's. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project c/o High's.
