Spencer, TN resident and Van Buren County, TN native Menda Louise Curtis, age 93, was born December 2, 1921 and died December 28, 2014 following an extended illness. A homemaker and member of the Church of Christ, she was the daughter of the late James Issac and Sallie Mae Walling Howard. She was married to Elijah Lewis Curtis who preceded her in death. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Dick Howard, Eli Howard, Charles Howard, Walter Howard, Bessie Clark, Lennie Mae Hodge and Martha Nordstrom. Mrs. Curtis is survived by six children, Ida Jean Myers and Edith Lotel (Cordell) Dykes both of McMinnville, Carl Lewis Curtis of Doyle, TN and Virginia Mae Baker, Elijah Lewis Curtis, II and Michael Anthony (Penny) Curtis all of Spencer, TN; fifteen grandchildren, Carolyn Dunn, Darlene Slatton, Emma Baker, Jerry Floyd, Jr., Timothy (Stacey) Floyd, Sherry Whittmore, Carl (Kim) Curtis, II, Tracy (Silissa) Curtis, Tina (Rodney) Bouldin, Emily (Shane) Walling, Morgan (Cody) Mills, Lisa (Mike) Goolsby, Rodney (Michelle) Myers, Marvin Myers, Jr. and Trudy Smith; twenty-three great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren; sister Gladys Shockley of Spencer, TN and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2014 in High's Chapel with Tracy Curtis officiating. Burial will follow in the Shockley Cemetery in Van Buren County, TN. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Monday and 9:00 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at High's.
