Amanda Mechelle Jakes Burks

McMinnville, TN resident and Rutherford County, TN native Amanda Mechelle Jakes Burks, age 33, was born May 23, 1981 and won her victory over cancer January 21, 2015. A Kindergarten Teacher at F.C. Boyd, Sr. Christian School and a member of Westwood Church of Christ, she was the daughter of Alan and Debbie Jakes of McMinnville. She was married December 26, 2003 to Chad Leon Burks of McMinnville. In addition to her husband and parents, she is survived by two children, Thomas and Kayeden Burks both of McMinnville; brother, Alan Jakes, Jr. of Morrison, TN; sister and brother-in-law, Alison and Chris Hicks of Cookeville, TN; sister-in-law, Jackie Jakes of McMinnville; cousin, Amber Coleman of Murfreesboro, TN; maternal grandmother, Patricia Burks and husband Leon of Manchester, TN; paternal grandfather, Willie Jakes, Jr. of Murfreesboro, TN; nieces and nephews, Austin and Tyler Jakes, and Walden and Ella Hicks; and sister-in-law, Amy Burks of Readyville, TN. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Westwood Church of Christ with Coy Hathcock officiating. A private burial will follow at Coleman Cemetery, Rutherford County, TN. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Boyd Christian School.
