Mildred McMahan Prater

Mildred McMahan Prater, age 93, a Morrison, TN resident and Coffee County, TN native died March 3, 2015 at River Park Hospital following a brief illness. She was a homemaker, member of Morrison Church of Christ and daughter of the late John W. and Zora Ann Dodd McMahan. She was married for sixty-nine years to Theodore "Ted" Prater who preceded her in death June 11, 2010. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by siblings and spouses: Lloyd & Lizzie Mae McMahan, Walter & Louise McMahan, Granville McMahan, Myrtle Elizabeth & Trice Bailey, Laura Ann & Everett McAfee, Viola Lee Ramsey, Clara & Bernard McAfee, Connie & Eustace Prater, Johnnie & Floyd Cooper; sisters-in-law, Willie & Drannon Sain, Johnnie Ruth & J.C. Fisher and Christine & Laverne Cooper. Mrs. Prater is survived by son, Ted Riley (Michael) Prater of Englewood, FL; three daughters, Connie (Marion) Turner of Morrison, Amy (Paul) Freeman of McMinnville and Brenda Dykes (Gary) Cope of Huntsville, AL; chosen daughters of the heart, Jennifer (Dwight) Starkey of Morrison and Treva Spurling of McMinnville, TN; nine grandchildren, Robin (Marcus) Eason, Jill Cherie McArdell, Jennifer (Chad) Turner, Elizabeth (Stephen) Smith, Kelly (Jamie) Taylor, Kara (Chris) Helton, Derrick (Buddi) Dean, Amy Jo Priest and John Wesley Roberts; twenty-one great-grandchildren, Abigail Nichole Eason, Brandon Kyle Eason, Julian Caleb Eason, Trey (Robert) Carey, Brooke (Avery) Carey, Aubrey (Julia) McArdell, Hannah Lea Turner, McCall Isaiah Turner, Kaylin Prater Barrett, Dustin Sawyer "Saul" Barrett, Samuel Vance Smith, Jacob Warren Taylor, Jase Wesley Taylor, Jamison Paul Helton, Jaxson Helton, Karoline Helton, Tres Suerio, Drayton Dean and Brinkli Dean; one great-great-grandchild, Caleb Ussery; sister, Pauline Light of Muncie, IN sister-in-law, Violet McMahan of Morrison, TN. Thirty two nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 7, 2015 at the Morrison Church of Christ with Alan Northcutt, Norman Light and Ray Weddington to officiate. Interment will follow in the Shady Grove Cemetery in Coffee County. Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, March 6, 2015 at High Funeral Home and 12(noon) until time of service Saturday at the Church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Boyd Christian School or Gospel Broadcasting Network.
