Spencer, TN resident and Rutherford County, TN native Leonard Lawrence "Larry" Smotherman, age 69, was born September 30, 1945 and died April 25, 2015 at his residence following an extended illness. A mechanic with Edd Rogers General Motors, he was the son of the late Leonard Lee and Evelyn Morehead Smotherman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, James Allen Smotherman and Richard Eugene Stone; sister, Annabelle Thompson; mother-in-law, Lucille Shockley; father-in-law, James Louis Shockley; and niece, Janie Bogle. He was married December 18, 1971 to Linda Shockley Smotherman of Spencer, TN. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Libby Lee and Ernie Webster of Murfreesboro, TN; two grandsons, Warren Blake Bryant and wife Tenna of Murfreesboro, TN and Dalton Cain Bryant of Spencer, TN; two step-grandsons, Elijah Webster and Ethen Webster; great-granddaughter, Rylee Elizabeth Bryant; great-grandson, Jaxson James Lawrence Bryant; sister, Mary Evelyn Laws; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 27, 2015 in High's Chapel with John Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Shockley Cemetery, Van Buren County, TN. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday and from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service Monday at High's.
