James Louis Mayes

Madison, AL resident and Van Buren County, TN native James Louis Mayes, age 76, was born May 15, 1939 and died August 14, 2015 at his residence following an extended illness. A retired manager with Dove Foods and a member of Monrovia Church of Christ, he was the son of the late Thomas Jefferson and Minnie Shockley Mayes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Mary Russell; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Fred Nolan and Lola Irene Dotson Scarbrough. He was married September 3, 1960 to Delma Mayes of Madison, AL. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary Nolan and Lisa Mayes of Madison, AL and James Craig and Tracy Mayes of Witchita, KS; four grandchildren and spouses, Kyle and Brooke Mayes of Franklin, TN, Katie and Collin Brasher of Madison, AL, and Casey Mayes and Hallie Mayes both of Witchita, KS; two sisters and brother-in-law, Thelma Delong of Spencer, TN and Dorothy and John David Wilson of Sparta, TN; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas Edward and Joyce Mayes of Unionville, TN and Lonnie and Lynette Mayes of Spencer, TN; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lou Ella and Leroy Debord of Pikeville, TN; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 17, 2015 in High's Chapel with Dwight Fuqua, John Alan Wilson, Dan Passon and George Oliver officiating. Burial will follow in Lonewood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Sunday and from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service Monday at High's. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lonewood Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 75, Pikeville, TN 37367.
