Ruth Evelyn Martin

Rock Island, TN resident and Cannon County, TN native Ruth Evelyn Martin, age 85, was born November 21, 1929 and died September 19, 2015 at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville, TN following a sudden illness. A retired seamstress with Cooks Department Store and a member of Friendship The Baptist Church, she was the daughter of the late Sterling Brown and Lonnie Gertrude Campbell Vinson. She was married to Willie C. Martin who preceded her in death. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by daughter, Faye Swack; brother, Levoy Vinson; and former husband, Sheriff Everett Pearsall. She is survived by four daughters and son-in-law, Sandy Pearsall, Cendy Miller, Barbara Pearsall, and Michelle and Andres Lopez all of Rock Island, TN; son-in-law, Phil Swack of Rock Island, TN; six grandchildren, Skipper Young and Michael Ashley Lockhart both of McMinnville, Mollee Brown of Sparta, TN, Sara (James) Neathery of Hermitage, TN, and Landon and Larissa Lopez both of Rock Island, TN; eight great-grandchildren, Jordan, Colyn and Samantha Young, Belle and Airel Copeland, Sabastian Aughinbaugh, Lola Beechum, and Carter Neathery; and brother, Sam Vinson of Smyrna, TN. Mrs. Martin was a Born Again Christian, who loved the Lord, and raised her five girls in God's truth and love. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was a master of many hobbies, including gardening and cooking, with sewing being her favorite. Funeral service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Sunday, September 20, 2015 in High's Chapel with Michael Lockhart, Landon Lopez and Steve Breedlove officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service Sunday at High's. Burial will be private with family only.
