Theodore Blackmon Thaxton, Sr., age 87, a Middlesboro, KY resident and Suwanee, GA resident died October 1, 2015 at Emory Johns Creek Hospital in Johns Creek, GA following an extended illness. He was a retired band director and teacher with the DeKalb County School System in Georgia, a U.S. Navy Korean war veteran, member of the Methodist Church and son of the late Jesse Benjamin and Inez Littlefield Thaxton, Sr. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by son, Michael Paul Thaxton in 2014 and brother, William L. Thaxton in 2004. Mr. Thaxton moved to McMinnville in 1943 and attended Central High School where he played football and was in the band. He attended Tenn. Tech University on a football scholarship and after graduation began his teaching career of thirty-five years. Mr. Thaxton is survived by son, Theodore B. Thaxton, Jr. of Suwanee; brother, Jesse "Ben" Thaxton, Jr. of McMinnville; three granddaughters, Jessica (Jeremy) Smith, Katie Thaxton and Linsey Thaxton of Gainesville, GA; one great-granddaughter, Aubrey Smith; niece, Celia George of Ohio; nephew, Clay Thaxton of North Carolina and cousin, Sara Jean Thaxton of McMinnville. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 5, 2015 in High's Chapel with Bob Case to officate. Interment will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. Monday until time of service at High's.
