McMinnville, TN resident and White County, TN native James "Jim" Cooper Shockley, age 77, was born September 26, 1938 and died February 17, 2016 at VA TN Valley Healthcare System in Nashville, TN following an extended illness. The retired owner of Shockley Carpet and a United States Navy veteran, he was the son of the late Roy Cooper and Ruby Lee Martin Shockley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son, Jeffrey Shockley; and three sisters, Clata Worley, Wanda Miller and Vivian Shockley. He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Julie and Larry Surles of West Chester, OH, Josie and Jim Looney of Apex, NC and Jamie and Mike King of Morrison, TN; nine grandchildren and one great-grandson; special friend, Jackie Thomas of McMinnville; and five sisters, Ruby (Melvin) Howard of Lancing, TN, Lillian Hobbs of Readyville, TN, Glinda Francisco of Tullahoma, TN, Linda Haston of Estill Springs, TN and Mary Haley (Harley Slatton) of McMinnville. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 19, 2016 in High's Chapel with Haskel Myers officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday and from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service Friday at High's. There will be no burial. Mr. Shockley will be cremated.
