Roberta Smith Beard Cunningham

October 4, 1925 — March 1, 2016

Roberta Smith Beard Cunningham, age 90, passed away March 1, 2016 at the home of her son, Eddie with family by her side. She was a retired seamstress at Red Cap Garment Company and member of the Church of Christ at Mt. Della. She was born October 4, 1925 in McMinnville, TN to the late James Alexander and Rosie Lee Mathis Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by first husband, James William “J.W.” Beard; second husband, Thurston Cunningham; infant son, James Douglas Beard; granddaughter, Donna Grissom; two brothers, Fred and Martin Smith; and daughter-in-law, Sydney Rogers Beard. Survivors include two sons, Fred Beard of Spencer and Ernest “Eddie” Beard and wife Wanda of the Fall Creek Falls Community; two grandsons, Matt Beard and wife Amanda and Tyler Spoonemore; three great-grandsons, David Young and wife Cady, Sam Grissom and Riley Beard; great-great-grandson, David “D” Young; great-great-granddaughter, Carliegh Young; sister, Virginia “Jo” Rhea; and dear friend, Laura “Shorty” Dodson. Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2016 in High’s Chapel with Greg Pickett to officiate. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery in Warren County. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Thursday, March 3, 2016 and 9:00 a.m. Friday until time of service at High’s.
