Alton W. McCormick, age 92, a Rock Island, TN resident and Warren County, TN native died May 4, 2016 at his residence following an extended illness. He was a retired heavy equipment operator with APAC and farmer, U.S. Army veteran of WWII who fought in D-Day, Normandy, Battle of the Bulge and Crossing of the Rhine, member of Friendship Baptist Church and the son of the late Will and Phoebe Hale McCormick. Mr. McCormick was married to Dorothy M. Orange McCormick who preceded him in death on June 22, 2011. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by sister, Vera Baker and grandson, Troy McCormick. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Cynthia McCormick of Rock Island; granddaughter and spouse, Mary Beth and Derrick Wanamaker of Grundy County, TN; three great-grandsons, Caleb, Nathan and Jacob Wanamaker; and sister, Alberta Garrett of Rock Island. Graveside service and interment will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 5, 2016 in Friendship Cemetery with Rick Lyles to officiate. Military grave rites will be conducted by VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173. Visitation will be 12:00 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. Thursday at High's.
