McMinnville, TN resident and Warren County, TN native Doris Fay Walling Erwin, age 85, was born May 9, 1931 and died June 19, 2016 in Chattanooga, TN following an extended illness. She was a retired school teacher, member of Westwood Church of Christ where she attended for 30 plus years, and daughter of the late Jay Everette and Mattie Jane Mooneyham Walling. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brother and sister-in-law, Darrell and Christine Walling and brother-in-law, William Clark. Mrs. Erwin was first and foremost a woman who loved God, all of her family, and especially young children. She loved the outdoors, golfing, travel and social events with many friends and family. She graduated from Central High School in McMinnville, TN. Doris graduated with a teaching degree from Tennessee Tech in Cookeville. Mrs. Erwin taught in Tennessee, Georgia, Florida and Pennsylvania. She taught in Florida at Cape Canaveral during the time of the first seven astronauts. She is survived by her husband of 19 years, Miles Erwin; sister, Geraldine Walling Clark of Celina, TN; six nieces and nephews, Clinton Wayne and Jean Walling of Beaumont, TX, Cindy Lee and Joseph V. Saia of Jackson, MS, Jerry Lynn Walling of Hendersonville, TN, Jay Anthony and Debbie Walling of Chattanooga, TN, Jane and Steve Robbins of Mt. Juliet, TN and Ann Clark Roberts of Cookeville, TN; three step-children, Phebe and Dave Warnock of Thompson Station, TN, Beth and Mike Johnson of Franklin, TN and Ed and Taryn Erwin of Knoxville, TN; and six step-grandchildren. Several great-nieces and nephews along with their spouses and children also survive. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2016 in High’s Chapel with Harold Jones to officiate. Interment will follow in Mt. View Cemetery. Visitation will be 12:00 p.m. Saturday until time of service at High’s. Donations may be made to Westwood Church of Christ Baja Mission, Alzheimer’s Association or Warren County Animal Control and Adoption Center.
