Margaret Marie Smith of Ft. Myers, Florida passed away Monday, August 22, 2016. Born on June 29, 1939, in McMinnville, Tennessee to Charley and Catherine Blanks Pistole, she enjoyed an idyllic childhood growing up on a rural, working farm. Marie attended Central High School and grew up as a member of Liberty Cumberland Presbyterian Church. After high school, she worked as a legal secretary and homemaker. She married Marion Smith on March 16, 1964 and they enjoyed a 52-year romance, raising their family in Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia and Florida. For the past 39 years, Marie lived in Ft. Myers, Florida, where she attended McGregor Baptist and First Assembly of God churches. A dedicated prayer warrior well known for her encouraging letter writing, she was active in the church and enjoyed volunteer work with children and the homeless. She is survived by her husband, Marion Monroe Smith and her children, Michelle, Monroe and Michael and their families, including seven grandchildren. She was kind and sweet with a strong Christian faith. Her unselfish nature along with her quiet strength will make her greatly missed by all who were lucky enough to know her. Her family and friends will remember her love of nature (especially birds and waterfalls), family gatherings, and fierce family Rook battles. The viewing and funeral service will be held Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Liberty Cumberland Presbyterian Church in McMinnville. The viewing will begin at 2:00 p.m. with a 3:00 p.m. funeral service officiated by the Reverend Harry Green. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery.
