John Lambert Duncan, age 92, a McMinnville, TN resident and Coffee County, TN native died September 10, 2016 in Raintree Manor following an extended illness. He was a retired employee of McMinnville Electric and a United States Army veteran of World War II, where he served in the Anti-Aircraft Gun Battalion Medical Detachment as a Surgical Technician 861 in Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. During this time he received the American Theater Ribbon, Eame Theater Ribbon with three Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal. He attended medical school in Ft. Bliss, Texas. His interests included painting, geneology of families, early American History and Indian artifacts. Mr. Duncan was the son of the late Bascom and Mary Jessie McBride Duncan. He was married June 11, 1946 to Kathleen Lefevers Duncan who preceded him in death. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by brothers, Paul, Frank and J.B. Duncan; sisters, Naomi Shavers, Margaret Colwell and Pearl Rich; and several nieces and nephews. Survivors include sister-in-law, Evelyn Uselton Duncan Shipley of Murfreesboro, TN; cousin, Gerald McBride of Losantville, IN; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 13, 2016 in High's Chapel with Bobby Pennington to officiate. Interment will follow in Welker Cemetery in Coffee County with military grave rites conducted by VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173. Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday and 9:00 a.m. Tuesday until time of service at High's.
