Norman William Marttala

McMinnville, TN resident and New Castle, PA native Norman William Marttala, age 83, was born April 18, 1933 and died November 7, 2016 at St. Thomas River Park Hospital following an extended illness. A retired metallurgical engineer with the U.S. Air Force, a U.S. Army veteran of Korea, and a member of the First Presbyterian Church, he was the son of the late Henry and Elina Amanda Halttunen Marttala. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. He was married August 30, 1959 to Murlene Reed Marttala of McMinnville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by son and daughter-in-law, David and Susan Marttala of McMinnville; daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Cynthia and Dr. Matthew Galumbeck of Virginia Beach, VA; and five grandchildren, Shelby, Will & Lilly Marttala, and Alix and Bryn Galumbeck. Graveside service and interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 12, 2016 in Mt. View Cemetery with Harry Green officiating. Military grave rites will be administered by VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173. There will be no visitation. Family and friends are to meet at the cemetery.
