Virgie Mae Ward

McMinnville resident and Van Buren County, TN native Virgie Mae Ward, age 91, was born October 5, 1925 and died November 12, 2016 at her residence. A retired babysitter and member of Madison Street Baptist Church, she was the daughter of the late Jim and Hassie Hillis Simons. She was married June 29, 1947 to John Wesley Ward, Jr. who preceded her in death March 1, 1961. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Inez Hale, Audrey McCoy, Loray Eller and Laura Lorena Simons and two brothers, Everett Simons and Joe Simons. Mrs. Ward is survived by two children and their spouses, Tony and Rita Ward and Sue and David Kirby both of McMinnville; four grandchildren, Lori (Greg) Yates, John Ward, Richard (Tanarra) Grissom and Josh (Sara) Ward all of McMinnville; five great-grandchildren, Lindsey Spain, Stephan Bell, Rachel Grissom, Brody Ward and Sarah Grissom; sister, Faye Sharpe of McMinnville and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 15, 2016 in High's Chapel with Harlen Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in the Crain Hill Cemetery in Van Buren County, TN. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Monday and 9:00 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at High's.
