Jack Clayton Smedley

January 17, 1930 — January 11, 2017

Jack Clayton Smedley, age 86, a McMinnville, TN resident and Grundy County, TN native was born January 17, 1930 and died January 11, 2017 in St. Thomas River Park Hospital following an extended illness. He was a devoted Christian, loving husband, father and grandfather, who enjoyed playing country music and spending time with friends. Mr. Smedley was a veteran of the United States Army, an Entrepreneur, member of Arlington Church of Christ and son of the late George Washington and Betty Hazel Morgan Smedley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Morgan Smedley. He was married April 23, 1955 to Marie Clendenon Smedley who survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Ricky and Lisa Smedley, Danny and Anna Smedley and Roger and Kimberly Smedley all of McMinnville and Tony and Rose Smedley of Rock Island, TN; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Randall and Ruth Smedley of Hixson, TN; and several nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 14, 2017 in High's Chapel with Charles Pearson and Jon Simmons to officiate. Interment will follow in Philadelphia Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday and 10:00 a.m. Saturday until the time of service at High's.
