Allen R. Voss Sr., age 65, of McMinnville, TN passed on to be with his Lord Friday, February 10, 2017 at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville, TN following a brief illness. He was born November 16, 1951 to the late Randolph and Delores Hackett Voss. Originally from Baltimore, MD, Allen spent much of his life in Tampa, FL. There he worked for several years as a deckhand on a tug boat for St. Phillips Tug and Barge, eventually earning his Captain’s license. Later he earned his Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and transitioned to driving delivery trucks for various companies. In 1997 he moved to Tennessee where he went to work for a long haul trucking company. From that time until his retirement in 2016, he drove thousands of miles across the U.S., literally from coast to coast. It was in 2000 that he discovered his love for rescuing animals, more specifically American Eskimo Dogs. He started working with Eskies Rescuers United during that time, and met his current wife, Beth. In 2006, Allen and Beth founded Mid-South Eskie Alliance, an animal rescue group dedicated not only to Eskies, but also a wide variety of dogs and cats. From 2006 to 2015, they saved close to 1,000 animals and facilitated their transportation to waiting adopting families. Allen’s love for animals also resulted in quite a large collection of dogs and cats living at home with them. He never saw a dog or cat he wasn’t willing to help. Allen is survived by his wife, Beth; his two sons, Allen Jr. and Cory; his brothers, Steve and Randy; his sisters, Karen and Leah; his five grandchildren, Josh, Wyatt, Ashley, Camden, and Katie. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at Locust Street Church of God with Jeff Page officiating. There will be no visitation prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Mid-South Eskie Alliance at Rescuers@midsoutheskiealliance.org, or Rescued Pets Movement at www.rescuedpetsmovement.org/help/donate. Online condolences may be made at www.highfuneralhome.com High Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
