A.J. "Hootie" Smith

April 19, 1927 — April 25, 2017

McMinnville, TN resident and Warren County, TN native A.J. "Hootie" Smith, age 90, was born April 19, 1927 and died April 25, 2017 at Raintree Manor following an extended illness. Retired from Genesco, a United States Navy veteran of WWII, and a member of the Church of Christ, he was the son of the late Arthur and Lela Gay Shockley Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Gordon Smith; and two sisters, Josephine Bell and Mattie Smith. He was married to Clemma Grace "Sugar Lou" Smith of McMinnville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children and spouses, Rudy J. and Linda Smith of Rock Island, TN and Renaa and Lynn King of McMinnville; four grandchildren, Rudy A. Smith of Hermitage, TN, Kyle King of Nashville, TN, Shawnda and Lynn Curtis of Curtistown, and Kerry King of McMinnville; three great-grandchildren, Cheslee Curtis, Eli King and Ashtyn Curtis; step-great-grandchild, Dustin Curtis and wife Amanda; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 27, 2017 in High's Chapel with Joe Solomon officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. View Cemetery, Hwy. 30 with military grave rites administered by VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 172. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service Thursday at High's.
