Rock Island, TN resident and Bledsoe County, TN native Julia Mae Howser Smith, age 82, was born February 28, 1935 and died April 25, 2017 at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville, TN. Retired from Aquatech and a member of the First Church of Jesus Christ Apostolic Faith, she was the daughter of the late John Earl and Demier Elizabeth Goforth Howser. She was married to Ruben William "Bud" Smith who preceded her in death. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Betty Pruitt, Margaret Sullivan and Lorene Brewer; three brothers, Frank, Harold and Earl Howser; and brother-in-law, Melvin Matthews. She is survived by two daughters, Karen Cagle of Pikeville, TN and Doris Castillo of Campaign, TN; son, Ruben Smith of Campaign, TN; five grandchildren, Billy Myers of Campaign, TN, Michael Myers and Kasey Smith both of Morrison, TN, Matthew Walker of Pikeville, TN and Cassie Johnson of McMinnville; ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Mary Matthews of Pikeville, TN and Elaine Richardson of Campaign, TN; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Pam Howser of Maryville, TN, Bill and Bonnie Howser of Bledsoe County, TN and Randal and Jean Howser of Pikeville, TN. Funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 28, 2017 in High's Chapel with Delbert Lane officiating. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service Friday at High's.
