Dow Yates, age 79, a McMinnville, TN resident and Putnam County, TN native was born September 4, 1937 and died May 9, 2017 in St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, self-employed in office supplies sales and service and son of the late James Monroe and Mary Eller Yates. Mr. Yates was a member of McMinnville First Free Will Baptist Church and loved his church family deeply. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Margaret Carter; and brother, Bill Yates. He was married February 24, 1962 to Ola Walden Yates of McMinnville who survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children and spouse, Sandy and Ronnie Porter of McMinnville and Roger Yates of LaVergne, TN; two granddaughters, Brittany Porter and Bethany Porter both of McMinnville; sister and brother-in-law, Bobbie and Jerry Sliger of Cookeville, TN; several nieces and nephews; and three sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Frances and John England, Helen and Donald Hutchings and Betty Smith. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 12, 2017 in High’s Chapel with Bro. Bill Eversole to officiate. Interment will follow in Mt. View Cemetery with military grave rites conducted by VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday and 10:00 a.m. Friday until the time of service at High’s. The men of McMinnville First Free Will Baptist Church are asked to serve as honorary pall bearers.
