Rock Island, TN resident and Van Buren County, TN native Liston Gale Hitchcock, age 92, was born March 18, 1925 and died October 12, 2017 at his residence. A farmer, a United States Army veteran of WWII, and a member of McElroy Church of Christ, he was the son of the late Morris S. and Leona Jaco Hitchcock. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Leffie and Flavis Hitchcock; and two sisters, Grace Drake and Shirley Brady. He was married on January 1, 1948 to Kathleen Moffitt Hitchcock of Bone Cave, TN. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children and spouses, Karen and David Baker of Spencer, TN, Ann and Allan Parker of Spencer, TN, Lynn and Claudia Hitchcock of Bone Cave, TN and Vickie Roberts and Steve Boyd of Bone Cave, TN; nine grandchildren and spouses, Ryan and Tiffany Baker of Spencer, TN, John and Liz Baker of Brentwood, TN, Jessica and Will Mooneyham of Spencer, TN, Jamie and Cleo Sanders of McMinnville, Nathaniel and Kayla Hitchcock of Bone Cave, TN, Joey Hitchcock of Rock Island, TN, Cassey and Bryan Spakes of Sparta, TN, Chelsea and Greg West of McMinnville, and Zeb Roberts of Bone Cave, TN; seven great-grandchildren, Everett Baker, Catherine Mooneyham, Isaiah Sanders, Brooklyn Hitchcock, Carli Hitchcock, Milly Htchcock and Lauralye West; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Leard Hitchcock of Rock Island, TN, Gerald and Mary Hitchcock of Bone Cave, TN and Morris S. and Jean Hitchcock of Cleveland, TN; three step-grandchildren, Clark Roberts, Chris Myers and Franky Carrosio; and nine step-great-grandchildren, Gavin Spakes, Rosa Gnida, Makenzie Johnson, Destiny Carbaugh, Mercedes Byrge, Lauren McDonald, Austin Roberts, Gwendlyn Roberts and Amilya Roberts. Mr. Hitchcock was an Honorary Director of White County and Van Buren County Cattleman’s Association, Van Buren County Farm Bureau, and was a bulldozer operator for 35 years. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 14, 2017 in High’s Chapel with Doug Goff and R.C. Christian officiating. Burial will follow in Long Cemetery, Van Buren County, TN with full military honors administered by VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at High’s.
